Round Yon Virgin Mother and Child

They really do remind me of mother and daughter.

I'm in red heaven.

Can you stand it?

This time it was my Aunt Gail who made a Christmas dream come true.  I am awash with gratitude.

She gave me the Dutch oven from her own kitchen...which was given to her by a woman who made luscious tomato sauces in it for 30 years before gifting it to Gail.  It is browned and marked by meals past and this gives me such joy.

I love that one of these ovens comes with its own story and personality and the other is for me to create.  And there will be feasts.  Oh there will be feasts.  I feel a strong need to use these vessels to pass on the generosity and love and sacred human connection with which they were sent to me.

So stay tuned for pictures.

And, my dear, dear G.Bird, my heart is swollen with you.

I just can't take it.

Right this minute---All is calm, all is bright.

Jen and Benny---Isn't G. just the best?!?!

Janet---I agree. Dammit Janet does not work for me. Not sure about "Girlfriend" either. Let me think on this. Part of me thinks we should just stick with BFYNM---I mean it's who you are. Let's sleep on this.

So I've been reading the Spew for quite a while now (and loving it) and am finally coming onto the comments scene in honor of the Dutch ovens. Last year I found myself lusting after one and if I had a blog I definitely would have written about it too. My lovely husband bought me one (in beautiful bright orange!) for our anniversary and I've never looked back. I probably use it three times a week; my dutch oven faves are roasted pork tenderloin and fingerling potatoes with chives. I'm now incredibly envious that you have two!
The fact that I've never posted a comment here and finally have due to a dutch oven shows that I love food a little too much.
A lot too much.

Corie...CORIE! Welcome! I knew from our brief exchange the other night that we could be boyzz and this proves it. As I recall, your husband got you the fabulous purse you were wearing so this sounds like some guy. I love that you're here and thank you for sharing your Dutch oven enthusiasm. I really am so in love and am grateful to hear from someone who understands how real this love can be.

Now let's get down to business...I need that pork tenderloin recipe. And the potatoes. (Do you make them together?) In fact, when Dan read your comment he said, "You have to get that recipe." You can post it here if you think it's easy enough or inbox me at lolamellowsky@gmail.com or leave it at Bec's or whateva. I just need to have it.

I hope I'm not putting too much pressure on you right as you've come out of the Spew closet. It's just that you just got me hungry. I love food "a lot too much" too! So glad you're here! And I kind of like the handle "Corie (the babysitter)"---it made me laugh.

YAY!!! Corie is a spew appreciator, too! Good shit!
I knew you said you had been reading, but in the absence of a comment (EVER!!), I didn't think you were keeping up with it. I love that you are...and please do get that recipe to Losey because I need that to be some home cooken' she makes for me! Hell, maybe one day I'll own one of dem pots, too!

Recipe coming up! Except I'm one of those crazy scattered cooks who don't use recipes or measure anything so this isn't going to be very exact...
Marinate the pork for a few hours with olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper, oregano or basil or rosemary (any are good with this recipe) and a ton of garlic. Sear the pork on each side for a minute or two in the dutch oven then add some potatoes, onions, any other veggies you like and some white wine. Cover and reduce heat, simmer until the pork is cooked through.
But you can also make the potatoes alone for a great side dish. Melt some butter in the dutch oven, add some olive oil and fingerling potatoes, salt, pepper, and a ton of chopped chives. Cover and reduce heat until the potatoes are cooked through and a little crispy around the edges.
I made those potatoes the other day as a side dish for dinner and then ate all of them before Ryan even got home from work. They were delicious but it was a revolting thing to do.

Enjoy!:)

OMG - Corie (the babysitter) is in my kitchen right freakin' now. It's too bad she's doing homework with Ryan rather than cooking up some of that there pork dish.

Damn it, if I only owned a dutch oven.....
